Learn DevOps
Ship software fast and safely: automate the road from commit to production, and run what you build.
About this track
DevOps is how modern teams go from a monthly, all-hands-on-deck release to deploying many times a day without drama. It’s a culture of shared ownership backed by automation: pipelines that build, test and ship every change, infrastructure written as code, and monitoring that tells you about problems before your customers do.
You’re joining Byte Bakery, an online bakery that delivers warm croissants by drone - and still deploys on a dreaded monthly Release Night. You’ll measure delivery with the DORA metrics and switch to trunk-based development and feature flags; build CI pipelines, artifacts and container images; ship with continuous delivery, safe deployment strategies and GitOps; manage servers with Terraform and Ansible; and keep production healthy with SLO-based alerting, calm incident response and DevSecOps. Along the way you’ll run pipelines, read Terraform plans and sort practices. Every exercise is a small Python tool of the kind DevOps engineers really write, and the capstone builds Byte Bakery’s delivery pipeline.
- Basic Python for the exercises: strings, lists, dicts, loops and functions.
- Some familiarity with Git and the command line helps - the Git and Bash tracks cover them.
- A rough idea of how web apps run on servers.

DevOps foundations
The culture and principles of DevOps, measuring delivery with the DORA metrics, and trunk-based development with feature flags. Badge: Wall breaker
- 0x001What is DevOps?Tear down the wall between building software and running it: the culture, the CALMS model, the Three Ways and value streams. 24 min 0/2 exercises solved 24 min 0/2 exercises solved
- 0x102Measuring delivery: the DORA metricsMeasure speed and stability together with the four key metrics - deployment frequency, lead time, change failure rate and time to restore. 24 min 0/2 exercises solved 24 min 0/2 exercises solved

Continuous integration
Fast CI pipelines, flaky tests, versioned artifacts, caching and well-built container images. Badge: Pipeline plumber

Continuous delivery
Deployment pipelines and environments, configuration and database changes, deployment strategies and GitOps. Badge: Release rider
